Pengertian Degree of Comparison

Degree of comparison atau yang dapat disebut juga dengan comparison degree adalah tata bahasa ( grammar ) yang berfungsi untuk membandingkan kualitas maupun kuantitas dari adjective ( sifat ) atau kualitas maupun kuantitas adverb ( keterangan ) dari dua objek atau lebih. Dalam kamus Oxford dikatakan bahwa “comparison degree is adjectives are used to clarify the difference between 2 objects”. Dalam comparison degree ada beberapa macam perbandingan yang digunakan, ada yang berfungsi sebagai penyamaan ( positive degree ), sebagai perbandingan 2 objects ( comparative degree ), dan yang berfungsi sebagai perbandingan antara 3 objects bahkan lebih ( superlative degree ).

Rumusnya :

Positive degree : S + tobe + as adjective as + object.

Comparative degree : 1. S + tobe + adjective + Er + than + object (  kata sifat terdiri dari 1 / 2 suku kata ).
2. S + tobe + the + adjective + than + object ( kata sifat terdiri lebih dari dua suku kata ).

Superlative degree : 1. S + tobe + the + adjective + est + object ( kata sifat terdiri dari 1 / 2 suku kata ).
2. S + tobe + the most + adjective + object ( kata sifat terdiri lebih dari dua suku kata ).
